Assembly Select Committee on Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities

Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Discovery Bay), chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, has announced the Committee’s first hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7. The hearing will be held 10 a.m. to noon in Room 437 of the state Capitol.

“I look forward to diving right in and hearing testimony about the significant challenges Californians with I/DD face,” Frazier said. “We will have presentations on employment, housing, the social safety net for I/DD individuals and an overview of the Department of Developmental Services and the current state of the Regional Centers. I want to thank Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon again for allowing me to establish this committee, and I am humbled by the amount of support the committee has received from my Assembly colleagues.”

Select Committees do not hold hearings on pending legislation; they are informational only. However, ideas for legislation often grow out of Select Committee hearings.

“Eventually the Select Committee will hold hearings throughout the state,” Frazier said. “We will look closely at the Lanterman Act and what the Legislature can do to help the Regional Centers provide the support and services the I/DD community deserves.”
