From the Desk of Lori Wilson
District Newsletter – July 2023

Greetings Everyone,

I hope everyone is prepared for the heatwave plaguing our California communities. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and above all else, be aware of wildfires that may occur within miles of your home. As always, it is an honor to represent you in the 11th Assembly District. Please keep scrolling to view our monthly community newsletter to keep updated on what's been happening in Sacramento and the district.

Preparing for the future

Thanks to a decade of fiscal responsibility, California is well-positioned to manage this year's reduction in revenue while maintaining vital programs and services. This budget protects the state's core ongoing programs in education, health care, the human services safety net, wildfire protection, public safety, housing, and natural resources. Here are some key takeaways:

  • Continues to transform public education by protecting core ongoing funding levels for K-14 education.
  • Maintains California's commitment to expanding Universal Transitional Kindergarten to all four-year-olds by 2025-26.
  • Maintains state-subsidized health insurance for all Californians.
  • Lowers co-pays and deductibles for Covered California insurance plans.
  • Increases Medi-Cal provider rates.
  • Assistance to keep distressed, small, and rural hospitals open.
  • Provides $5.1 billion over three years in temporary funding to help transit agencies invest in capital and improve their financial stability.
  • Provides $3 billion for housing and homelessness-related expenditures.
  • Approves student housing projects to serve 4,100 more students.
  • $51.4 billion for climate programs.

District Highlights

Map

This month, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill 102, a key component of the 2023-2024 California Budget Act, which includes key funding for several projects statewide. Included in these projects are two critical infrastructure proposals secured directly by Assemblywoman Wilson, along with a handful of others that will benefit the 11th Assembly District:

$1,500,000 to the City of Vallejo for the Vallejo Marina Seawall Rehabilitation Project.

$2,000,000 to the City of Oakley for the East Cypress Road Widening (Jersey Island Road to Bethel Island Road).

Other 11th Assembly District funding contained within AB 102 includes:

$3,750,000 for the County of Solano for radio interoperability, infrastructure improvement, and early learning resource center.

$2,500,000 to the Contra Costa Fire Protection District for the Firefighter Peer Support & Crisis Referral Pilot Programs.

$2,500,000 for the California Department of Housing and Community Development for grant funds to cities in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties for creating pre-approved permit-ready accessory dwelling unit plans.

$500,000 for Hijas del Campo for construction of farmworker housing in east central Contra Costa County.

Returning state funding to my district is an honor, especially in a difficult budget year. These infrastructure improvements build upon over $17 million in district requests from last year's budget. Environmental protection, transportation infrastructure, housing, and emergency preparedness are key needs for our community which I will continue to address in Sacramento.

Juneteenth

Every year, communities across our country celebrate Juneteenth, a state and federal holiday commemorating enslaved African Americans' emancipation. I had the opportunity of getting out in the community and attending numerous events throughout the 11th District.

Cancer Update

As many of you know, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer earlier this year. Over the past few months, I have been undergoing treatments, and I am proud to announce that I have completed most of my treatments and am in the home stretch.

Pink Day

I was also humbled to be honored by my colleagues in the State Assembly on Pink Day. The amount of support I have received from the community has been overwhelming.
