Assemblymember Frazier Holds High-Speed Rail Oversight Hearing

Tuesday, March 29, 2016

Sacramento, CA – Yesterday, Chairman Jim Frazier (D –Oakley) of the Assembly Transportation Committee held an oversight hearing regarding the 2016 High-Speed Rail Draft Business Plan (Plan) that was released on February 18, 2016.

The updated Plan sets forth a fiscally constrained financial outlook of the initial operating segment and other early investments. The hearing allowed the legislature to take a look at the project's status and discuss in detail what will be expected of them if it proceeds.

“I want the legislature to be fully informed - particularly with the financial plan - while maintaining an eyes wide open approach,” stated Chairman Frazier. “Yesterday’s hearing allowed us to understand the assumptions and risks associated with the finance plan in addition to the full impact resulting from using funds from different programs."

The hearing offered an objective overview of the financial scenario laid out in the Plan for the Initial Operating Segment, extensions into San Francisco and Bakersfield, and early investments in Southern California.

“It is paramount that the legislature work diligently to ensure the Authority’s success,” stated Chairman Frazier. “We can only achieve this by being engaged and providing proper oversight as the project moves forward.”
