Frazier Releases Statement on Federal Water Legislation to Defend the Delta
Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D - Oakley) released the following statement regarding the Water Resources Development Act of 2016 in his continued fight to protect the Delta:
“As a defender of the Delta, I plan to introduce legislation to further protect the Delta and those who rely on all it has to offer. I completely disapprove of the last minute language included in the federal water legislation allowing unsustainable water exports south of the Delta.
“These new provisions will utterly devastate the Delta’s environment. My constituents’ water supply will be threatened due to the imbalance in salinity levels resulting from these increased water exports. This bill will inevitably lead to a drastic decline in fisheries and a loss of thousands of jobs that depend on a healthy Delta ecosystem in the fishing industry.
“I hope the President will recognize the catastrophic effects and send this proposal back to the drawing board when deciding whether to give his final approval later this week.”
Assemblymember Frazier represents the 11th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Antioch, Bethel Island, Birds Landing, Brentwood, Byron, Collinsville, Discovery Bay, Fairfield, Isleton, Knightsen, Locke, Oakley, Pittsburg (partial), Rio Vista, Suisun City, Travis AFB, Vacaville and Walnut Grove.
