Town Hall on proposed WaterFix will be live-streamed
SACRAMENTO – A town hall that Assemblymember Jim Frazier (D-Discovery Bay) and Sen. Bill Dodd (D-Napa) are hosting Thursday morning in Walnut Grove to examine mounting financial concerns with the proposed WaterFix project will be live-streamed. A link to watch the town hall live will be posted at the websites of Frazier and Dodd.
The town hall will be held at the Jean Harvie Community Center, 14273 River Road, in Walnut Grove, from 10 am. to noon. Members of the public are invited to attend.
It will feature testimony by officials from the State Auditor’s office, whose recently completed audit of the Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) management of the proposed twin tunnels found escalating cost overruns and questionable management practices. DWR officials will respond to the Auditor’s findings at the town hall.
Dr. Jeffrey Michael, executive director of the Center for Business & Policy Research at the University of the Pacific, will present the Center’s recent report, “Benefit-Cost Analysis of the proposed California WaterFix.”
Walnut Grove and the neighboring community of Locke are where DWR proposes building massive intake facilities for the tunnels.
“We decided to do this in a Delta community whose way of life is threatened by the proposed twin tunnels,” Frazier said. “For those unable to attend in person, we wanted to make sure they have the opportunity to watch the town hall live on-line. The office of the State Auditor will present the findings of its recent report directly to the public and DWR officials will have the opportunity to publicly respond to the audit. We also asked Dr. Michael to share the findings of his recent cost-benefit analysis of the proposed tunnels, which sheds light on the questionable economic viability of WaterFix.”
Assemblymember Frazier represents the 11th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Antioch, Bethel Island, Birds Landing, Brentwood, Byron, Collinsville, Discovery Bay, Fairfield, Isleton, Knightsen, Locke, Oakley, Pittsburg (partial), Rio Vista, Suisun City, Travis AFB, Vacaville and Walnut Grove.
