Sacramento, CA -The COVID-19 crisis has led to historically unprecedented increases in the level of initial Unemployment Insurance (UI) claims filed in California since the start of the crisis in mid-March. As a result of these record-breaking unemployment claims, Assemblymember Jim Frazier dedicated three full-time staff members over the past year to assist constituents with their EDD claims.
"My district staff has always been available to assist constituents with their UI claims. But after the caseload increased by over 2900% during COVID, I felt it was necessary to dedicate three full-time district representatives as liaisons between the EDD and claimants," said Assemblymember Frazier.
So far, Assemblymember Frazier's staff has dealt with more UI claims in 2021 than in all of 2020. So, appropriately, the Assemblymember has approved the temporary hiring of two additional staff members to help with the increased unemployment caseload.
"Hundreds of families within my district have shared their frustrations with trying to reach California's Employment Development Department (EDD). I will not sit idly by as my constituents wait excessive amounts of time to receive the assistance they so desperately need," said Assemblymember Frazier.
